Jordan Hall Crucifix
This crucifix in Jordan Hall's Galleria was dedicated in honor of the late Fr. Joseph Walter, C.S.C., professor emeritus of chemistry and biochemistry. In his more than three decades as chair of the Department of Preprofessional Studies in the College of Science, Walter proudly watched nearly 5,500 graduates of the department embark on careers as physicians, dentists, and other health professionals.
The crucifix was created by Croatian sculptor, architect, and artist Ivan Meštrović, renowned as one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th Century, who spent the last seven years of his life as a professor at Notre Dame. His sculptures are found throughout campus and in many cities and great museums, such as the Tate Gallery in London and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
